Do you offer evening and/or weekend appointments?
Several of our locations offer early morning hours starting at 7:00 a.m. for your convenience. Some also offer early evening and occasional Saturday appointments. Please see the hours for each location as they do vary.

Do you offer walk-in hours for patients?
Scheduling an appointment is preferred; however, if you are in pain, we will see you as soon as possible. For routine care, we will do our very best to accommodate you.

What services do you provide?
1st Advantage Dental of New York offers
General Dentistry,

Why do my gums become sensitive and bleed during brushing?
Bleeding and sensitive gums can occur due to many factors, including medical problems, pregnancy, build-up of plaque,
periodontal (gum) disease or improper brushing and flossing. Plaque increase bacteria in the mouth and more bacteria can contribute to swollen gums that can bleed easily. For a proper diagnosis, see your dentist.

How can I overcome my fear of the dentist?
Tell the patient coordinator about your dental fears when you make the appointment. When you come in for your appointment, the 1st Advantage Dental of New York dental team and staff will do everything possible to make your experience positive.

How often should I schedule a routine check up?
We recommend twice-yearly check ups and dental cleanings. Individuals with special dental needs may need more frequent visits. Talk to your dentist for specific needs and follow-up procedures to determine what is best for you.

How will I know if my fillings need to be replaced?
Fillings may need to be replaced due to age of the filling or simple wear over time. Your dentist can determine if any fillings should be replaced. Let your dentist know if you are experiencing any pain.

How can I tell if I lost a filling or cracked a tooth?

Children's Dental Care FAQs
When should I start brushing my baby’s teeth?
Start brushing your baby’s teeth as soon as they come in. Use a soft cloth instead of a toothbrush until all of the baby teeth grow in.

When should I schedule my child’s first dentist appointment?
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends children be seen by the dentist by age one. It is very important to have a child be seen for a dental checkup at least by the age of three. 1st Advantage Dental of New York practices are well prepared to treat young children. The purpose of your child’s initial visit is to create a trusting and positive experience.
The dental hygienist will see the child, and introduce him/her to the dentist and the dental environment. Next, the hygienist will proceed by counting teeth, polishing teeth and taking pictures (x-rays) if the child is willing and reacting positively. 1st Advantage Dental of New York wants to instill a positive message for your child of the dentist and the dental experience.

Do you provide financial options?
1st Advantage Dental of New York has flexible
financial options. Senior citizens are eligible to receive a 20% discount on services when enrolled in the Dental Care Advantage Senior program. Contact your 1st Advantage Dental of New York practice for more details.

What insurance providers do you accept?
We accept most insurance including: GHI, Delta Dental, Guardian, MetLife and Cigna. Please
contact the practice directly to discuss the specific details regarding your insurance.

How much will I have to pay and when do I have to pay it?
We do our very best to ensure there are no surprises. Please note that insurance is an arrangement between you and the insurance company. Specific questions about your insurance and coverage should be directed to your insurance company.
It is often difficult to determine exactly what your portion will be dependent on the various insurance and employer plans. At your initial visit, we will present to you an itemized list of your needs for future visits with an estimated cost per visit. This will give you opportunity to verify with your insurance company also. It is expected that we will collect your portion of the fees at the time of service.

Why can't I pay my portion after my insurance pays?
We collect your portion at time of service. In the event we have over-collected by accident, your account will have a credit balance. We do monitor the accounts monthly and will contact you to determine your preferred method of refund. Please feel free to contact us immediately after you receive notice from your insurance company to request a refund as well.
